But, it's generally accepted that Richards composed the majority of the lyrics and Jagger contributing a few. "Angie" is an acoustic, guitar-driven ballad, which depicts the ending of an affair and was recorded between November 1972 and in December 1972. Richards composed the piano melody for the song. Nicky Hopkins was a regular on Rolling Stones recordings. Nicky Harrison arranged the strings for the song and also "Winter" as part of his arrangement. A peculiarity of the recording's original version is that Mick Jagger's vocal track that was recorded prior to when the final vocals were recorded and is not heard throughout the entire song. This effect is often known as a ghost voice.
