 Audrey Hepburn, born Audrey Kathleen Ruston on May 4, 1929, died on 20 January 1993. She was an actor from the UK and an activist. She was an icon of fashion and film. The American Film Institute ranked her as the third most outstanding female screen legend in Classical Hollywood cinema. She was also admitted into the International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame. Hepburn was born in Ixelles in Brussels to an wealthy couple. She spent a portion of her youth in England, Belgium and the Netherlands. Sonia Gaskell, a ballet teacher in Amsterdam taught her ballet from 1945 until 1948. Marie Rambert was her London ballet instructor. Following her first stint as an West End chorus girl, she was cast in small roles in a variety of films. She was a major character in Roman Holiday (1953), the romantic comedy that starred Gregory Peck. For this film, she was awarded an Oscar and an Oscar, a Golden Globe Award and a BAFTA Award. She was awarded the Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a Play in the same year for her performance in Ondine.
