Brian Anthony Boitano, born on the 22nd of October, 1963 in Sunnyvale, California is an American figure skating champion. He was the 1988 Olympic Champion, the 1986 and 1988 World Champion and the 1985-1988 U.S. National Champion. After the 1988 season, the athlete became a professional. He participated at the 1993 Winter Olympics and placed sixth in accordance with the new ISU rules. He was elevated to professional level. He was elected to both the United States Figure Skating Hall of Fame in the year 1996. Alongside other skaters, Boitano helped push the boundaries of technical men's skating. Boitano was the first American to land the triple Axel in 1982. Boitano introduced his signature jump known as the "Boitano triple Lutz", in 1987. It is a jump where skaters raise their left arm over their head. In the 1986-87 season he tried quadruple jumps and competed during the 1988 World Figure Skating Championships.
