He rose through the ranks of Timely Publications, a family-owned company that later became Marvel Comics. For the past two years, he was the chief creative director of Timely Publications, which expanded from a modest publishing division to a multi-media company that was the dominant comics. The 1960s saw the debut of these characters and others. Lee challenged the Comics Code Authority's rules in the 1970s.
